STEWARDSHIP

It is difficult to teach or practice stewardship, unless we have a clear understanding of exactly what stewardship is. If we wish to embrace stewardship, we must gradually learn to embrace every definition or aspect of stewardship.
  • Scripture Based-All of the teachings of stewardship come directly from the Gospels, the Old Testament and the letters of the New Testament. Stewardship is not a new fad, or environmental word. Stewardship is the way God has expected His people to live since the beginning of time.
  • Dependence on God-Stewardship is recognizing that everything we have is a gift from God. We can take credit for nothing. Everything we have and everything we do is a result of some gift that God has placed into our hands.
  • Gratitude-Stewardship is living a life of gratitude – taking the time every day to recognize the gifts that God has given and to be grateful for them.
  • Giving Back-Stewardship is returning a portion of our gifts to God. The gifts we return are our time, our talent and our treasure. We return these gifts not because God or our Church needs them but because we feel an overwhelming need to show our love and gratitude to God.

​Throughout the year, our parish groups put on different events that have become the heartbeat of the social activities of our parish. 
              The main theme to these events is — fun!  In order to put these on, of course, volunteers are needed.  If you can help us here, you will find a dependable cadre of helpers who, over time, have formed a close bond.
Please help us maintain the number of parish events in this area for which St. Martin of Tours has become known.
 
       When we come to church for Mass or a liturgical gathering, we usually see a decorated altar, a clean church, perhaps some flowers, filled holy water fonts and generally, a church interior that is in order and ready for worship.
      This happens because a few good volunteers have made it so.  In order that we have inspiring liturgies and good order inside church, we need people to set this in motion before the Mass ever begins.  Your willingness to help does not bind you to keep doing so
Keeping up the church usually does not involve much time.  Cleaning altar cloths, for example, can be done with your own laundry.  But if these small but essential tasks are not done, it soon leads to things being out of order and unrecognizable. 

​Part of our parish mission statement talks about outreach to the needy.  Being Catholic, we believe in social justice, especially helping the poor and those needing our help. 
                 This is where you can come in.  We need people to help us reach out to the needy and the poor.  There is great need in our area, and as Jesus teaches us, our “neighbor” is  anyone who needs our help.
Whether it is our food pantry, visiting the sick or just praying for others, you can be of great help to someone.  To learn more, please look inside!
          It is surprising, when we look at it, just how many helpers are needed to properly put on our various liturgical and spirituality ministries.
        It isn’t only the priest or the deacon, but many others, from those who help us find a seat, to those who sing and play the music to those who count the collection afterwards.   These and more are needed to present a prayerful and inspiring liturgy. 
          If you can help us here, it would not usually be an every week thing.  We randomly schedule and freely take subs.   We do need your help and participation — after all,  wouldn’t it be a bit lonely if it was only the priest and you?
 

 
      “Ministry” is a word that can be misunderstood.  Here, it simply means to offer our services to help others in some way.  We “minister” to others when we serve our parish in a parish group or committee. 
       These are the planning groups of our parish, and we always need people who can organize, plan and carry out the policies and projects of our parish!
Whether it is on our parish council, in our food pantry for the needy, or just enjoying the sociality of the CCW or Men’s Club, we need you!
 
          
​        Everyone seems to agree—without the involvement of our young people, the parish will eventually wither.
    Those who help guide young people are doing most important work.  Our youth have energy, new ideas and strength.  You can be the final piece of the picture.
         Please consider helping us as a volunteer willing to work with the young people of our parish.
